January Camera Reel
For this month's update, I'll only be talking about things I photographed on my phone 😸
I spent some time at October Salon, working on our constitution and our 'doings'. October Salon is an artist collective that occupies temporary space in Preston. Find more on the @october_salon Instagram.
I went to Blackpool with my partner Alwyn. It was cold but the seafront was so beautiful. I got some nice video footage of the ocean.
I also found a printed copy of volume 2, issue 1 of the Journal of Latin American Cultural Studies, at the time called Travesia, in a charity shop. It contained this great article on Modernism in Brazil, with a focus on Brazilian literature at the time.
On 10th October we held the How Do We Keep Us Safe? workshop. Click here to read the full report.
I've started tapestry weaving! I've warped my first simple frame loom and started weaving my first sampler, a design inspired by the lesbian pride flag 😊
Spotted a Free Palestine sticker while out on a walk 🇵🇸
I've been thinking about decolonisation, and about how we 'decolonise empire' or decolonise the British Isles, as a land which houses an imperial core and which lacks an Indigenous peoples. So it was about time I read STAT's edict, A Manifesto for the Foundation of the Future of the Hyperlocale. I took a photo of the final page because it was very impactful, but I'm uncertain if I want to share that excerpt here, out of context of the rest of the piece. There's a copy at October Salon if you wanna read it though, which really is more in keeping with the ethos of the work itself.
I'm stitching two maps together as my submission to the Harris Open 2026. That should be finished and submitted in the next couple of weeks ☺️
And finally, I spent even more time at October Salon, holding space and hanging out while my friend Hans did their durational performance Watching Paint Dry. It was great 😺
Thanks for stopping by. I've done a lot of other stuff this month, like working on my PhD, that's not in my camera reel. When I did my Orbit Report back in October (a yearly review newsletter I published on my birthday) I used my camera reel along with my calendar, notes, emails, etc. as one of many data sources to help me rebuild my memory of my activities over the last year. I enjoyed using it here as the only data source, but it also reveals how 'holey' it is, in terms of what it doesn't capture, what things I don't take photos of. I'm not sure how I'll report February but there's a lot going on, so perhaps I'll try to be more conscious of capturing photos of things I'm doing.
